White Rioja, as I have suggested, can be awful stuff, but there is some good white wine to be found in Spain. In Galacia, the most north-western part of Spain, Rias Baixas can be very drinkable. The wines are made from the Albariño grape, and many are cold-fermented to maintain freshness, the antithesis of old white Rioja. My top wines: Lagar de Cervera.

I love this article and your ability to explain something that most people question so clearly, concisely and with terrific imagery! I think you might have a future in this business ;)

Hey Ann,

Rebeccah certainly wrote a terrific piece here and don't feel bad, most people are not aware of the differences.

A few things to look for: Roses from Tavel (France) as well as those from California (Donelan, Ampelos & Bonny Doon are my favs).

Cheers!

Erol

I never really knew the difference and avoided Rose because I thought it was simply a variation of white zinfandel. Now that I know, I'm very excited to try some! Any suggestions?

Ooh. at last a quite accurate post on theme cognac. Brava!

But why limiting your choice to the Big Brothers? There are plenty of little cognac houses that stand out for more quality at a lower price than Henny &C.
I'm sure that it's easy to find them in the US too. Just have a look around, and then drink it neat ;) .
